Eligibility

Staff members of participating European institutions and the University of Cape Town are eligible to receive a research allowance to support their secondment. They must satisfy theses conditions: 

Research and innovation staff member 

Staff members working in research and innovation activities at beneficiary institutions are eligible, regardless of their career stage. Reearchers include but are not limited to PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, assistant professors, full-professors. Management and technical staff supporting research and innovation are also eligible. Bachelor's and Master's students are not eligible. 

Full-time employment or enrolment

Staff members should have an exact 1.00 FTE commitment with the sending institution. No additional work commitment can be undertaken. Experienced researchers can submit a recent version of their employment contract or a letter stating their employment commitment. 

Students enrolled in a PhD program can submit proof of enrolment with the mention full-time. If they do not have a full-time contract, they will have to arrange a supplementary agreement with their home institution before the secondment. 

Affiliation of one-month full-time equivalent before the start date of the secondment

For example, two months of part-time work equates to one month of full-time work. A secondee must inform the project management team if their affiliation with the sending institution changes during secondment. For PhD students, this means either defending their thesis or completing their degree. 

No cumulation of funds from other European Commission sources 

It is not possible to receive funding from the European Commission for the same expense from other sources. However, a secondee can receive additional financial support from other grant-giving agencies and institutions, provided the same expenditure is not financed twice. The coordinator reserves the right to refuse a staff member whose profile does not meet the eligibility criteria.
